Platforms

EventSentry runs on the following platforms:

 

Windows NT 4 SP6

(workstation and server)

Windows 2000

(all versions and service packs)

Windows XP

(Home and Professional)

Windows Small Business Server 2003

(all service packs)

Windows Server 2003

(all service packs)

 

Permissions

The following permissions are required to install EventSentry:

 

Administrative permissons

 

or

 

Permission to create and control services
Permission to write files to %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32
Permission to write \Program Files directory
Permission to write to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software

 

Remote Update

The following requirements need to be met (on computers that are to be updated) in order to use all features of remote update:

 

The ADMIN$ share needs to present
The Remote Registry Service needs to be running (only Windows 2000 and higher)
The Client for Microsoft Networks needs to be installed

 

These requirements only affect remote update. EventSentry can still be installed locally with the setup program on hosts that do not meet the above requirements.

 

Web Reports

The EventSentry web reports work with the following web servers:

 

Microsoft Internet Information Server 5
Microsoft Internet Information Server 6

 

Database (ODBC)

A database server with ODBC drivers for the platforms listed above is required to use the ODBC notification. EventSentry has been tested successfully with the following databases:

 

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (with SP3a)
Microsoft Access
MySQL 4.1.7 or higher with InnoDB support
Oracle 9i and higher

 

Please inquire at support@netikus.net if you would like to use a database other than the ones listed above.

 

Hardware

When using the environment monitoring feature:

 

One available serial port (used for data collection)
One available USB port (used for power)
