Custom Event Logs

Top  Previous  Next

The Windows Operating System supports "custom event logs". With this feature you can categorize event records by their event source and store them in a separate event log. For example, you can create a custom event log called Web Server, which stores events from the event sources IISADMIN, SMTPSVC and VBRuntime.

Unfortunately, there is scant information about how custom event logs are created and maintained through editing the registry. This encouraged us to create a graphical user interface that allows you to more easily administer custom event logs.

With EventSentry you can

monitor custom event logs
manage custom event logs from within the GUI (without having to manually manipulate the registry)
read custom event logs

Note: Windows NT 4 cannot read custom event logs with the Windows Event Viewer. However, the EventSentry event viewer does support custom event logs on Windows NT 4.
