Customizing Heartbeat Options

Top  Previous  Next

Once the global heartbeat options are set you can customize the settings per computer if necessary. For example, while you might want to ping all computers, only one computer might be running the SMTP service on TCP port 25.

To customize the computer settings, right-click the computers container and select Heartbeat Configuration. You will see a dialog on the right similar to the one shown below:

The screenshot shows three computers, where two are already configured individually.

The letters shown in the Options column are abbreviations for Ping [P], Agent [A] and TCP [T]. If the letter for the particular feature is shown in the Options column, then this means that the respective service will be monitored. The ports column shows all TCP ports that are being monitored.

To customize the settings for a computer, simply double-click the computer in the list or select Edit Settings ... from the context menu. This will yield a dialog similar to the one shown below:

When you press the OK button, the computer will be monitored using the settings specified in the dialog. It is currently not possible to only override a particular option, for example only override the TCP options.

Even after you save the configuration, you will need to wait for the next heartbeat monitoring interval to come in order to see your changes on the status page.

For a computer to use the default group settings again, click the Use Defaults button. This will dismiss the dialog and the computer will inherit the group settings again.
